Workshop

Development of Mexican neutronic and thermal-hydraulic numerical tools for the analysis of SMR

Friday, 27 June 2025, 11:00-12:00
KIT Campus Nord, INR, Bau 521, 2. OG, Raum 302
The AZTLAN platform project is a Mexican national initiative led by the National Institute for Nuclear Research (ININ), which brings together the nuclear institutions of higher education in Mexico, in a common effort to take a significant step towards positioning Mexico, in the medium term, in a competitive international level on nuclear reactors analysis and modeling software. After ten years of development of numerical tools, several milestones have been done in the development, implementation, verification and validation processes. The suc-cessful participation of the Mexican team in several international benchmarks together with the international cooperation, including the one with KIT, allowed the team to move the ef-forts in the direction of high-fidelity analysis of Small Modular Reactors. A review of the most outstanding results obtained by the AZTLAN platform team is presented, together with current projects that include thermohydraulic and neutronic modeling of SMRs.
